So I'm about two chapters into the book and so far I love it. I agree with Kaylinne when she said this:
"Hells Bells, bottom line Bob Lee Swagger murdered the senator and the colonel in cold blood at the end... Yeah, we all like the idea of cowboy justice - but the Bob Lee Swagger I know would never have done that. Sigh."
Even this early into the book it's clear Bob Lee isn't a cold-blooded kill kind of guy. He's a great character in the book, and I think he's a great character in the movie, but they are different. |

Dayyum, girl, I was hoping you'd get to reading the book. Hunter's Bob Lee is quite a bit different from Shooter's Bob Lee. I'm with you, I like them both, one is not better than the other, just different.
Just say the word and we can toss more commentary back and forth.
Would you believe that I'm taking a pistol handling course this coming weekend, due in part to Hunter's book - and his pure love for his weapons?!!!
Hope that all the ballistics jargon doesn't slow you down! That's why the one line that Bob Lee said in the movie has me howling every time - regarding Sam, the dog; "Just feed him once a day and read him some ballistics tables." Totally cool. _________________ That's why SF is so badass - we got the best flashlights. -- Three Kings

Ok, so I'm not the only one who wants to shoot something after exposure to Bob Lee (movie and book)! I'm LOVING the detail in the book, although much of the technical stuff is over my head and I wonder if I can let it go or if I should look it up. Super-dork, yes, that's me.
I am so envoius that you're taking that gun handling course. I've been to the range but it was years ago. I'd love to learn to shoot, although I'm a bit on the moody side so I'd have to take a calming meditation class concurrently to keep everything in balance. |

Hey, heatherleigh, the class was great! Learned a lot about handguns, and spent two hours on the range shooting everything from a .22 semiauto to a .44 revolver - 9 mm, .38 Special, .45 - the gamut! Even one with a laser site. My 14 year old son is so much better than I - something about old dogs and new tricks here.
How's the book coming along? _________________ That's why SF is so badass - we got the best flashlights. -- Three Kings

Hey! I was wondering how you liked the class. What did you think of the .38 and .45? I haven't shot in years but I think I remember a lot of recoil with those. I felt better with a 9 or smaller, maybe that's not unusual for a female. Felt like a badass, regardless, except for with the .22.
The books coming along, although more slowly than I'd like. I just can't read much at a time with my daughter, she's not into it, regardless of how fascinating I make it sound! I'm into Chapter Three, and it's getting really good. Bob knows that Accutech isn't who they present themselves to be, and that was missing in the film. They are now taking him through a series of tests (they just intoduced Nick Memphis). I'm lovin' it. I'm going on vacation tomorrow (probably will be MIA around here for the next week or so) and I hope to read more while I'm away. |

Neither the .38 nor the .45 kicks like my .44! LOL! Actually, I didn't shoot the .45 revolver, just the .45 semiauto - you know you're holding a weapon, and it pushes your wrists back a bit.
That .44 revolver of mine kicks like a mule!
The most fun is the .22. I'm in the market...
Here's hoping you have a great vacation and find some time for yourself! Hope you'll be able to read, girl!
I love the set up in PoI, it's more of a luring out of seclusion for Bob Lee, with a possibility at exacting some revenge on the SOB who took Donny out, and who ended Bob Lee's career in the military. No patriot button pushed. And I love the fact that he was a recovering alcoholic - so that scene with the beer guzzling dog kinda fell flat for me.
Nick Memphis was good in the movie, but is even more sympathetic in the book - he was a sniper and he took it upon himself to try to rectify the life of the innocent bystander...
It certainly would have been very difficult to bring all that into play on the movie screen. Unless people wanted to sit through more than 2 hours in the theater. I wouldn't have minded... _________________ That's why SF is so badass - we got the best flashlights. -- Three Kings

This would be the cover of the book from the latest printing. No other pictures inside.
No audio version of the book available. If you don't mind my asking, why don't you read? _________________ That's why SF is so badass - we got the best flashlights. -- Three Kings
