In the movie-Fear- doesn't Marks character David has a manhatten(i can't spell today for some reason.) of broklen type of voice. If i'm wrong someone correct me!

His accent is not New York at all but very Boston. If you spend time here on the east coast you really hear the difference. His in this movie is definetly Bostonian.

And to bring this back on topic. If I remember right, David said he was from back east or it was when Nicole's dad found out about his real background. So Mark didn't have to mask his accent as it fit the character.

I know I linked to an article (I think it was from the Boston Globe) about the boston accent in Off topic a while ago if anyone's curious of the differences from the other east coast accents. Funniest one is 'car keys', it sounds like they're saying 'khakis' if they have a really strong accent.

David says his parents are 'back east' in the scene near the beginning of the film where Nicole and him are talking just before their first kiss.

Boston and New York accents sound very different to each other.....even to English ears! I love them both but think the Boston accent is more sexier! I think Mark does a very good New York accent in The Basketball Diaries - especially the scene between him and Leo after they have been kicked out of school and are discussing what has happened to the drugs.
